The Hellenic Navy (HNL) is the second oldest Branch of the Armed Forces of Greece, designed to carry out operations at sea, in order to keep Greek territorial waters free from any mischief.

The operations are carried out by the ships, frigates, fast guided missile patrols, submarines, tankers, gunboats, minesweepers, minelayers, general support ships, helicopters as well as naval cooperation aircraft.

In general, the Greek PN serves the Greek defensive and, if necessary, offensive doctrines, being called several times to cover the needs of inter-allied operations, in which it also assists.
