The Hellenic Army Air Force (abbreviated AS) is one of the six Arms of the Army. Organically it belongs to the Army Aviation Directorate which is under the Army General Staff. The Army Air Force became an Army Arm in 1996. Initially it did not function as an independent branch of the Armed Forces, but existed as part of the Army and Navy.
